Transfer Station

The transfer station schedule on Saturdays is from 9 am until 5 pm. Summer hours begin on April 1 and includes Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-6 pm, as well as Saturdays from 9 am until 5 pm. Transfer Station tickets can be purchased at the Alverno Grocery Store or at the Township Hall during office hours. Please call transfer station attendant at (231) 268-9757 for information on what type of garbage that is acceptable at the drop off site.

  • November 1 – March 31; Saturday 9 am – 5 pm
  • April 1 – October 31; Tuesday & Thursday 2 pm – 6 pm, Saturday 9 am – 5 pm

Recycling Program

Benton Township offers a no fee recycle program. Please adhere to the following requirements so that the program may continue. Recyclables must be CLEAN. This program is for Benton Township taxpayers only and recyclables will be accepted behind of the Benton Township Park located just off Orchard Beach Road. There is a driveway just past the park entrance with a sign marking the entrance to the recycle bins.  There is another recycling location next to the Alverno Fire Department building on US 23. The new changes are listed below and the bins now fall into two major categories

Plastic

New changes to the program now include. All number plastic bottles, jugs, jars, plastic tubs, trays, and cups. Also, new to recycling program is the acceptance of juice boxes, milk cartons and paper cups. Clamshell plastic trays are also now accepted as are tubs used for yogurt and cottage cheese. No biodegradable or corn-based plastics.

Plastic Bags

Plastic grocery bags, bread bag, bundling wrap, for example that used to bundle rolls of toilet paper and cases of water bottles, food storage bags.  Bags must be clean,  dry, and bagged up into one bag and tied closed. Plastic bags should be deposited in the paper, boxes, and bags category.

Cans, Foil and Foil Trays

Please remove labels, rinse and flatten. NO aerosol cans, propane tanks, paint cans, scrap metal, wire hangers or gas cylinders(propane, helium, oxygen, etc.).

Newspaper, Magazines and Phone Books

NO wet and/or yellowed newspapers.

Cardboard

Please remove any packing material especially Styrofoam and foam packing peanuts and flatten boxes. This category includes cereal boxes and paper towel rolls. Boxes meant for use in coolers or freezers or waxed produce boxes. e.g. beverage boxes are now acceptable.

Glass Bottles and Jars (clear, green and brown)

Please rinse glass, but there is no need to remove labels. NO light bulbs, window glass or glass dishes.

Dry Cell Batteries

New Brush Disposal Site

Benton Township now offers a dump service for brush and yard debris for Residents only. The site is located at the transfer station, 7200 Orchard Beach Road. Same hours of operation as the transfer station.

Please do not add stumps, building materials or other waste – yard debris only.

Please check in with transfer station attendant prior to dumping any brush or yard debris.
